Cosmetic containers
have been at the center of Korea’s cosmetic culture since the Three Kingdoms period. They have been made with
diverse materials during each age, and evolved in various forms according to
cosmetics or cosmetic materials contained. While powder and soap-powder were contained in lidded vessels or jars, lotion and perfumed oil
were contained in small bottles. Powder dishes and water-spouts were used to
mix with cosmetic materials. The exhibition presents cosmetic containers from
the Three Kingdoms era, made in diverse materials, including Goryeo blue
celadon, Joseon white porcelain and Bucheong ware.
Coreana Cosmetics
Museum, specializing in the collection of cosmetic culture-related artifacts,
collecting a great number of cosmetic relics, donated 200 cosmetic containers
to the National Museum of Korea in 2009. It is hoped through this exhibition
viewers may feel the magnetism, beauty, and diversity of Korea’s cosmetic containers used by our ancestors. Supported by Coreana Cosmetics, Co., Ltd.
